What was the Pre-Adamic World Like?

In our previous article, available to all members, we posted on what exactly happened in Genesis 1. In this post we want to look at how Ezekiel 28 depicts a pre-Adamic world. When we look at passages like those in Ezekiel we see a lot of activity on a pre-Adamic earth and if we read it correctly we can see that these things took place before Genesis 1.

Let us take a look at Ezekiel 28:12-19:

“Son of man, take up a lamentation upon the king of Tyre, and say unto him, Thus saith the Lord God; Thou sealest up the sum, full of wisdom, and perfect in beauty. Thou hast been in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold; the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou has walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee. By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, o covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire. Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee. Thou hast defiled thy sanctuaries by the multitude of thine iniquities, by the iniquity of thy traffick; therefore will I bring forth a fire from the midst of thee, and I will bring thee to ashes upon the earth in the sight of all them that behold thee. All they that know thee among the people shall be astonished at thee: thou shalt be a terror, and never shalt thou be any more.”

This is commonly understood to be God talking to Lucifer or satan when he fell. We see that Lucifer was the cherub that covereth. In this chapter we see that he was in the garden of Eden before Adam, and at the time he was still beautiful and perfect. We also see that there was trade going on in the garden of Eden, or on earth, before Adam as it says ‘By the multitude of thy merchandise’, or other translations translate this as ‘through your widespread trade’. In order for there to be trade there had to be other nations or people groups with whom lucifer could trade.

In fact we also see other kings in this chapter where God says that He would cast lucifer to the ground before kings. These ancient kings must have ruled before Adam because by the time Adam is created Lucifer had already fallen.

So in Ezekiel 28 we see that before Adam and the story of Genesis 1 there was a different society living on earth, but what happened to earth in order to get to the state we see it as in Genesis 1:2? We will discuss this in another article.
